A message from the president

The decision to accept the post of President of Interior Designer of Canada (IDC) was one that I took with much thought and contemplation. As a practicing interior designer for the last 27 years, IDC has always been very much a part of my career development. The thought never crossed my mind that I would one day play a significant role in representing this exciting industry on a National and International level.

IDC, with the support of its seven provincial association members, provides a forum for the unified voice of Canadian Interior Designers. IDC is dedicated to serving all of its provincial member associations. From Continuing Education and a National Liability Insurance Programme to having a seat at the table with Government relations both provincially and Nationally, IDC strives to serve the interior design industry and to uphold the high standards which it individual practicing members exemplify in their everyday practice.

These are significant times that we work and live in. As professional interior designers, our careers are a major part of who we are and we are constantly challenged to keep informed and up to date in this fast paced economy. Interior Designers are faced with new challenges every day and IDC has a mandate to try and stay ahead of those challenges on your behalf..

Across Canada today, as professional practicing designers, we have a common goal and that is to promote the health safety and welfare of the public. Currently, one province has been successful in obtaining a practice act. We congratulate Nova Scotia for its success in what is likely to be the first of all member provinces obtaining practice legislation.

I am honoured to be given the privilege of being president of Interior Designer of Canada. I am looking forward to having an opportunity to visit each province over the course of my term and meet with each provincial association and hopefully many of its members. There is much work to be done and I am ready, willing and able!

Sincerely,

Linda Makins
President, IDC
